Norma Hernandez was elected to serve as the Illinois State Representative for the 77th district in 2022. She was formally sworn into office in January 2023. Prior to her election she worked as an Urban Planner.
Hernandez was born and raised in Melrose Park, Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she earned a Master’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy. After completing her studies, she worked as an Urban Planner for the Great Cities Institute at UIC, leading groundbreaking research to improve the lives of low-income families in the Chicago area.
In 2021, Hernandez was elected to the Triton College Board, where she served as a trustee. During her time on the board, she helped oversee the college’s $76 million budget, promoted transparency, and advocated for greater student resources.
Throughout her career, Hernandez has been a passionate advocate for social justice and civil rights. She has fought to protect workers’ rights, strengthen public education, and promote environmental sustainability.
Throughout her career, Hernandez has been guided by her commitment to serving her constituents and improving their quality of life. She is a tireless advocate for the people of her district and is dedicated to fighting for their interests in the Illinois State Legislature.
Hernandez is dedicated to supporting small businesses in her district and creating economic opportunities for all residents. She works in the Legislature to secure funding for local infrastructure projects and has advocated for policies that promote economic growth and job creation. She is also a member of the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus as well as the Illinois Legislative Progressive Caucus.
